Welcome to Homes.

Homes is Plum Creek’s language for small groups. As we recognize the value of living life together, we want to emphasize the importance of meeting around a table in missional communities, where people get a glimpse into who we are and how we follow Jesus.

As we open our doors and invite others to join us, we have the opportunity to show Christ’s love through hospitality and service.

Our collective mission is to embody the core values found in Acts 2 within every Home, fostering communities where everyone feels seen, known, and loved.

What is a Home?

Homes exist to reflect Jesus’ love by extending Biblical hospitality, studying God’s word together, and actively engaging in loving our neighbors. Homes are designed to build deep connections with Jesus and each other through regular gatherings and shared meals. Homes are formed with your people, whether they call Plum Creek their church or not, living in authentic community to impact this valley in tangible and practical ways. A Home is not a Bible or book study, a sermon discussion group, or a dinner club – it’s actually some combination of all these things!

Hopefully, that cleared things up, but you can keep scrolling for even more frequently asked questions surrounding Homes.

  • First, give yourself a high five for taking the step to join a Home! Here are a few ways to get connected:

    • Reach out to Amanda Lewis, the Homes Coordinator at Plum Creek (alewis@plumcreek.church), to see how she can help guide you to a few open Homes.

    • Talk to someone you know who hosts a Home and ask!

  • Every Home is unique. Some discuss the weekend message or content on Right Now Media, some complete Bible Plans in the YouVersion Bible app together, some break bread weekly around kitchen tables while others meet monthly at a local coffee shop! Three things you’ll find in every Home, though, are that we become more like Jesus together through prayer, and studying God’s word, we do life together through consistently breaking bread, and showing up for each other, and we love our neighbors together through serving our city and living on mission together.

  • Absolutely! It’s understandable to want to find people you feel comfortable opening up to and developing authentic friendships with. That being said, if you’ve joined a Home and aren’t sure if it’s the right fit for you, don’t give up. Keep in mind that there’s no such thing as a perfect Home because there are no perfect people. Remember to have grace and patience during the process. If it’s clear that this Home isn’t the best fit for you, please, reach out to Amanda Lewis to give another home a try.

  • This might be a sign that God is calling you to start a Home! If God has placed a calling within you to be a part of cultivating authentic community, He might want you to take a step of faith and become a host! You won’t have to do this alone, though. Your Life Together team is here to support you every step of the way!

  • First, attend a Homes Basics. After that, your Life Together team will reach out to help you prepare to host your Home. Then, you can invite your people and start gathering!

  • Don’t worry—you don’t have to be Martha Stewart or a Bible scholar to host a Home! We will be rolling out lots of great resources to make hosting a Home possible, including conversation topics for your group, content to go through, tips for new hosts, and resources to help you develop and grow as a host. You’ll also be connected to our Life Together team, who will be there to support you with prayer, resources, and encouragement along the way.

  • Much like the Church is made up of many parts (1 Corinthians 12), it takes a village to make a Home thrive! When we all look at needs through the unique gifts we have, it’s the perfect recipe for a thriving community! So even if you are not a naturally gifted chef, bible teacher, or activity planner, you should still have a role - everyone should! Don’t feel the pressure to do it all, because everyone has something different to offer!

  • While this won’t pertain to every Home, our hope is for kids to feel like this is their community as much as it is for the adults! While this ideal is really great, it can also be tricky to work out. The goal is to find the balance between including the kids and honoring everyone in the room. Most Homes have kids present for the front half of the gathering, as they eat a meal together, and then have some sort of situation figured out for them for the second half (e.g. a crafting activity, yard games, a fun movie night, paid babysitters, etc.). We would encourage everyone to acknowledge that finding a balance will likely take some time, but we also recommend continuing to make space to discuss how to integrate kids into your home, especially as they grow!

  • We’re here to help! We will be sending out a monthly survey to all Hosts to try and help capture frequently asked questions and respond with answers. We also have a help desk, in which you can submit a question at any time and receive a response from our Life Together team!

Come to a Homes Basics.

Homes Basics sets the stage for everything Homes will become. It’s a great opportunity to explore what life together in authentic community can look like.
